Restaurant week in Shanghai! Restaurant-week-flyer-march2012

Reservations opened this morning for the fifth edition of Shanghai Restaurant Week, an event where our city's best restaurants offer 3-course lunch and dinner options at a set price. Put on by DiningCity, this round will run from March 5-11. It's a great excuse to skip your usual place and try something new, different, and hopefully delicious. Better reserve yourself a seat quick, though - some places are already fully booked!

Restaurant Week works like this:
Each participating restaurant (this year there are over 90!) falls into either Category A or Category B.
Category A meals will run you 118RMB for lunch and 248RMB for dinner. Depending on the restaurant, this could potentially be a steal, or potentially not. We suggest you choose carefully.
Category B meals are 78RMB for lunch and 168RMB for dinner. But it looks like this cheaper option is shrinking - we only count about 16 of the 90-odd restaurants this year in Category B.

While Restaurant Week was originally started in New York to offer discounted gourmet fare to the masses, Dining City says that in Shanghai they are less focused on price, and more focused on service and overall experience. Eat a very carefully-designed meal, and be treated well while you do it.
“Chefs go out of their way to create special menus for Restaurant Week,” said Onno Schreurs, Managing Director for China and Hong Kong of Diningcity.com, the organizer of Restaurant Week. “The element of surprise is something that our diners appreciate - it gives the restaurants a chance to really show off.”
This year DiningCity is also teaming up with Metro to put an emphasis on responsibly-sourced food. Metro will partner with a selection of restaurants during the week who will offer a menu made exclusively from traceable products. Those restaurants include Goga (already fully booked), Madison, El Willy, and Downstairs.
